We’re recruiting Front of House volunteers (IWM London, HMSB & CWR) to help tell the stories of lives changed by war & conflict. Our 5 branches are home to unforgettable collections that document extraordinary times and the people that lived them.
We are recruiting for IWM London (Lambeth Road), HMS Belfast (London Bridge) and for Churchill War Rooms (Westminster).
About the Role:
- Discover Volunteers are the warm and welcoming face of the museum helping visitors in the discovery and orientation of the site.
- They are confident using their initiative, intuition and are proud of being an IWM ambassador.
- They help visitors explore our exhibits and activities
- They welcome school groups and help to point out key facilities, address access needs and highlight our ‘Hidden Gem’.
- Make visitors feel special: As a Discover volunteer you will be there at the beginning of the visitor journey and will have the opportunity to make our visitors feel special and valued by informing, enthusing and engaging in all that IWM has to offer.
- Contribute from your interests: You will be able to make recommendations based on their personal interests and provide orientation information to make sure that they get the very most out of their visit.We are looking for volunteers who are friendly, engaging and passionate about the IWM and its charitable message.
- Build you confidence: This is a great opportunity to engage with visitors, improve your confidence and learn more about our fascinating history.

There is lots to learn! Not just about the role and IWM but also about various parts of history, how significant London tourist attractions work and what it feels like to volunteer with us in general. Before starting we will give you all teh necessary training for the role and we provide ongoing training and development opportunities for our volunteers after that as well.
We are looking for someone who
- is aged 18 or over,
- enjoys new experiences and helping others
- is happy to work as part of a team.
- who can commit to ideally 1 day per week, between 10:00 – 13:30 or 13:15 – 16:30. Priority will be given to applicants who can volunteer on weekends, Mondays or holiday periods.

We run a monthly three course meal for isolated older people with live entertainment. Volunteers are vital to the dinner as with out them it would not go ahead. They provide a variety of roles.
