Discover Volunteer - Front of House

We’re recruiting Front of House volunteers (IWM London, HMSB & CWR) to help tell the stories of lives changed by war & conflict. Our 5 branches are home to unforgettable collections that document extraordinary times and the people that lived them.

What You'll Do:

We are recruiting for IWM London (Lambeth Road), HMS Belfast (London Bridge) and for Churchill War Rooms (Westminster).

About the Role:

  • Discover Volunteers are the warm and welcoming face of the museum helping visitors in the discovery and orientation of the site.
  • They are confident using their initiative, intuition and are proud of being an IWM ambassador.
  • They help visitors explore our exhibits and activities
  • They welcome school groups and help to point out key facilities, address access needs and highlight our ‘Hidden Gem’.
Why You'll Love It:
  • Make visitors feel special: As a Discover volunteer you will be there at the beginning of the visitor journey and will have the opportunity to make our visitors feel special and valued by informing, enthusing and engaging in all that IWM has to offer.
  • Contribute from your interests: You will be able to make recommendations based on their personal interests and provide orientation information to make sure that they get the very most out of their visit. We are looking for volunteers who are friendly, engaging and passionate about the IWM and its charitable message.
  • Build you confidence: This is a great opportunity to engage with visitors, improve your confidence and learn more about our fascinating history.

There is something for everyone!

What You'll Learn:

There is lots to learn! Not just about the role and IWM  but also about various parts of history, how significant London tourist attractions work and what it feels like to volunteer with us in general. Before starting we will give you all teh necessary training for the role and we provide ongoing training and development opportunities for our volunteers after that as well.
