Power to Connect are a charity working throughout Wandsworth running digital drop-in sessions to help people with basic digital tasks, we also run digital training sessions on key skills such as online safety. We collect laptops from donor organisations, clean them and refurbish them and deliver them to families, schools and community organisations, to date we've delivered over 3,000 devices.
A lack of digital skills and access to technology can have a lasting negative impact on all aspects of a persons life. From increasing isolation to lower life expectancy, to reduced access to jobs and education to a greater potential for falling into poverty, the challenges faced by someone without basic digital skills are significant.
Receiving a Power to Connect device means that people can have increased access to jobs and learning opportunities, it means that young people have the tools needed to access their schoolwork, ensuring they can succeed alongside their peers, it gives elderly people more opportunites to overcome isolation and gives everyone the chance to thrive.
Power to Connect has a team of dedicated volunteers who really care about the work we do. We are always looking for new volunteers and have roles for people who are more IT experienced and digitally skilled through to people who can offer support and a warm welcome at our sessions.
We work directly within our immediate community of Wandsworth. This means that our volunteers can make a genuine difference to the community and can see and experience the impact of their work on an ongoing basis.
