Wandsworth Digital Champions

What You'll Do:

Could you be our next Digital Champion volunteer?

Do you know your Apple from your Android? Could you spare 2 hours a week to support us in our mission of ensuring that every person in Wandsworth has access to technology and the skills to use it?

Power to Connect is a community charity running digital drop in sessions across Wandsworth, our sessions bring together people who need support with basic digital tasks with the Digital Champions who can help them. Running in libraries and community centres, drop-in sessions offer a friendly and informal setting for residents to get basic help with laptops, smartphones & tablets and to improve both their skills and confidence.

As a Digital Champion you might be helping people set up online accounts, supporting them in sending emails or assisting them to use their phone more successfully. The tasks are varied and broad but the support our volunteers provide can have life changing benefits.

We are now looking for Digital Champions for January 2025 onwards, who can spare two hours a week, or every other week and can volunteer in any of the following sessions:

- Battersea library, Monday 10am - 12pm
- Roehampton library, Monday 2pm - 4pm
- Battersea Park library, Tuesday 2pm-4pm
- Southfields library, Wednesday 2pm-4pm
- Wandsworth library, Thursday 10am-12pm
- Tooting library, Friday 2pm-4pm

Why You'll Love It:

Digital exclusion drives poverty and can mean that people become increasingly isolated from the world around them. Our digital drop-in sessions play a vital role in ensuring that residents in Wandsworth receive the support they need to overcome digital exclusion and the challenges it presents. Our team of Digital Champions sits at the heart of these sessions and their patience and dedication makes a real contribution to reducing digital exclusion. These are hugely fulfilling roles that offer a genuine opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of the people we support and to see the impact of this first hand.

What You'll Learn:

We provide a supportive environment in which you can grow your skills as a Digital Champion. From access to the Digital Champions platform for practical information and guidence through to ongoing support from Power to Connect staff you will become more confident in communicating with people, in understanding the challenges that many people face and in meeting and supporting people from all walks of life.

What We're Looking For:

You don't need to be an IT whizz, but these roles are more suited to people who digitally aware with a good understanding of digital technology and the patience to show others, often elderly people, how to use it.
