University Student Mentoring

Do you want to make a real difference to a young person's life? If you are a current university student of any subject (or have graduated within the last 2 years), this opportunity could be for you!

What You'll Do:

The IntoUniversity Mentoring Scheme pairs university student mentors with young people aged 10-17 from some of London’s most disadvantaged areas, giving them the opportunity to receive tailored, one-to-one support.

You'll have fortnightly meetings to support the young person with their academic development, social skills and future plans. After a few face-to-face meetings there is the option of meeting virtually.

Why You'll Love It:

As a mentor, you'll get to become a role model and have the opportunity to inspire a young person. You will see your mentee grow their confidence academically and socially as they develop their skills and abilities. Along the way, you'll have lots of fun and new, rewarding experiences with your mentee and hopefully learn as much from them as much as they do from you!

You'll also be invited to group mentoring events throuhgout the year where you can meet pairs from other IntoUniversity centres and feel part of something really special.

What You'll Learn:

This is a great opportunity for you to develop new skills and gain experience for your CV. The kind of skills you will develop include communication, confidence, creativity, organisation, planning, and teamwork. You'll receive indepth safeguarding training and guidance on how to structure your mentoring meetings. There will also be opportunities to take part in ongoing volunteer training at regular intervals throughout the year.

What We're Looking For:
  • A minimum of grade C in GSCE English & Maths or equivalent (we accept international qualifications)
  • Current university student (undergraduate, Masters or PhD) of any subject or have graduated within the last 2 years
