Online School Tutor to Young People with Long-Term Illness (All subjects, ages 5-24)

We are looking for kind, engaging volunteers to tutor young people with serious mental or physical illnesses. We are looking for multiple tutors with varying ages and subject preferences (e.g., primary, GCSE Math, A-level English, etc.)

What You'll Do:

Run weekly 1-hour online tutoring sessions in a subject area you are confident teaching.

Why You'll Love It:
  • Make a Difference: Experience the satisfaction of helping young people overcome educational challenges during their recovery.
  • Personal Connection: Build meaningful relationships with students and see the direct impact of your support.
  • Flexible Schedule: Enjoy the flexibility of tutoring on your own time, making it easy to fit into your schedule.
  • Rewarding Experience: Gain fulfillment from watching your students grow and succeed academically.
  • Supportive Environment: Be part of a supportive community that values your contribution and dedication.
What You'll Learn:
  • Teaching Skills: Develop effective teaching strategies and techniques tailored to individual learning styles.
  • Communication: Enhance your communication skills by working with students, families, and educational professionals.
  • Adaptability: Learn to adapt your tutoring methods to meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Patience and Empathy: Cultivate patience and empathy, essential qualities for supporting students facing health challenges.
  • Subject Mastery: Deepen your knowledge in the subjects you tutor, reinforcing your own understanding and expertise.
  • Problem-Solving: Improve your problem-solving skills by addressing the diverse challenges students may face in their education.
What We're Looking For:

We need someone who can engage with young people in a positive and friendly way, helping them overcome their experiences and not feel defined by their illness. You would engage with a young person on a one-to-one basis to help them catch up on their studies, increase their confidence in their own skills, and have some fun with them to help them progress.

The young people we work with have missed so many experiences in school which we take for granted. The time you can offer to help fill those missed periods is invaluable to their development. Bright Futures UK staff will fully support your sessions – from questions or queries, resources or materials, or just to bounce an idea off the team, we’re here to help.

Volunteering with Bright Futures UK can easily fit into your working day or busy schedule, with commitments starting from as little as 1 hour per week. We are so grateful for any support you might be able to provide, as are our young people.

We look forward to working with you to help our young people reach their true potential!
