Female 1-2-1 Befriender for the Women Service

Your role is to provide personalised support and companionship to ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students, fostering their English language skills and understanding of life in the UK

What You'll Do: 
  • Provide tailored support to ESOL students through one-on-one interactions, focusing on fostering English conversation skills and enhancing their knowledge of life in the UK.
  • Engage in meaningful conversations and share insights about cultural aspects, daily life, and community resources, facilitating the integration process for individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Create a friendly and supportive environment that encourages social inclusion and reduces feelings of isolation among ESOL students.
  • Offer basic information and assistance to access services, helping individuals navigate essential resources and support networks effectively.
What We're Looking For: 
  • Sufficient level of English required to engage effectively in one-on-one interactions and build rapport with ESOL students from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Empathy and compassion to understand the unique needs and challenges faced by individuals adjusting to life in a new country, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to accommodate varying schedules and preferences, ensuring the convenience and comfort of both the volunteer and the student.
