Overnight volunteers for Robes Winter Night Shelter

We are looking for two overnight volunteers to be at Robes Winter Night Shelters for the provision of homeless people in Southwark and Lambeth by hosting 1 night a week for 12 weeks during the winter months.

What You'll Do:

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the building is secure and fire exits are accessible in case of an emergency.
  • Greeting any late guest arrivals and providing food left by the evening team.
  • Making sure the building is locked and lights turned out by 10 (including the church area).
  • Responding if a guest needs assistance in the night.
  • Letting guests out if they need to leave early for work.
  • Passing information about how the overnight has been to the morning volunteer.
Why You'll Love It:

As a volunteer with Southwark Cathedral, all volunteers gain:

  • The opportunity of supporting a historic London landmark
  • Invitations to meetings and other cathedral events.
  • An opportunity to enhance your existing skills and develop new ones.
  • Discounts in the Cathedral Shop and Café
  • A reference for those seeking paid employment (after a minimum satisfactory volunteering period).
What We're Looking For:
  • Good people skills with a non-judgmental attitude.
  • Good time management.
  • A flexible approach to their work.
  • Ability to work within a challenging environment.
  • Ability to follow and give instructions.
  • Be 'people focused' / 'people person' as this person will need to be approachable both to volunteers and guests.

Crossbones is a stone's throw away from London Bridge and was boarded up and closed for many years. Behind the hoardings is a post-medieval, un-consecrated pauper’s burial ground with the remains of an estimated 15,000 people buried there.
