Get Rid of and Donate CIC, is a local environmental focus community project, that works to support vulnerable people and families in need. GROAD collects donations from the community at our community hubs redistributing reducing waste to landfill.
Role purpose: To support the project in the collection, sorting, and running of the community hubs, with a focus on supporting the people and families with donation distribution and engaging in activities and socialising with service users.
Personal qualities and experience GROAD volunteers are friendly and patient. They understand the needs of people and empathise with them. They demonstrate strong listening and communication skills. Some experience of family life useful for making conversations and understanding their needs. Reliability and consistency as volunteers build a repour with our clients.
Volunteers must be willing to work within guidelines and always follow confidentiality policies.
Tasks and activities
• Collect donations check and sort them into category, and store to storage.
• Participate in the sorting of donations and activities, as required.
• Organise activities if you have a particular skill you would like to share.
• Sort donations following the guidelines to ensure items are in good condition, usable, and working
• Help the clients when selecting items.
• Socialise with clients and make conversations
• Tidy up and maintain a clean environment
• Other tasks as asked for by the lead volunteer
GROAD operates in Lewisham, Southwark, and Lambeth helping people in families, refugees & asylum seekers, the homeless, and the ongoing Ukraine appeal. The pandemic and the living crisis have had a demand for help with basic essential items, community donations have been able to provide resources and facilitate the need for many people and families that are registered to receive support. The collection of good, usable, and working items with more life has become invaluable to people who are on low income or unable to afford, most of all reducing waste to landfill sites.
GROAD aims to alleviate waste and help London achieve its goal of becoming a zero-waste city. According to the Mayor’s office London Environment Strategy, 7 million tonnes of household waste is produced from private residences, businesses, and public spaces. By diverting perfectly serviceable items from our city’s landfills, we can help chip away at this large issue and contribute to a sustainable future

Get Rid of and Donate, have and will continue to assist with living standards for people and families at a time when the living crisis continues to escalate and people are concerned about how they can cope and manage their financial affairs on low incomes, benefits and also people without any sort of revenue.
The social change we envision in the project will help and improve the economic burden and living crisis by providing essential living items, elevating pressure on financing for food, and clothes, heating their homes, and survival of living on the streets.
GROAD support can help with the relief of mental health and anxiety which also includes the prevention of poverty, criminality domestic abuse and suicide across the backgrounds of people the project supports and engage with. By diverting perfectly serviceable items from our city’s landfills, we can help chip away at this large issue and contribute to a sustainable future, while helping members of our community who are in need. The project will be able to improve people’s lives and make a contribution, being a support network for times of need, to assist in the demand sourcing and delivery of items such as large furniture to families and provide opportunities for individuals to get involved and volunteer and support the project of reaching out.
