Friends of Ruskin Park
We are an independent charity led by local people, working to preserve, protect and improve Ruskin Park
ABOUT US:

We are a volunteer-run charity working to ensure our park is well cared for and maintained and has a planned and healthy future. We raise money to improve the park and organise a regular programme of events and activities. We have been a registered charity since 2016 and work closely with Lambeth Council and others.

Our aims are:

  • To work collaboratively with the park’s landlord, Lambeth Council, and its tenants, to help their management to maximise all aspects of the quality of Ruskin Park, as desired by park users and within available resources.
  • To engage park users and the wider community in maintaining and improving the park for their own health and wellbeing, for now and in the future, and balancing their different interests.
  • To run, sponsor or support specific desired events and activities for and with park users, and capital projects for improvement of physical assets, that would not otherwise happen.
  • To ensure we have the resources to achieve the above aims – financial, people, communications and governance
WHY OUR WORK MATTERS:

Our work helps ensure our park is well cared for and maintained, and has a planned and healthy future, preserving it for future generations.

OUR AWARDS:
Ruskin Park is one of Lambeth's Green Flag Award-winning parks, as well as a holder of 'Park of the Year' award from London In Bloom
THINGS WE ARE PROUD OF:
Friends of Ruskin Park volunteers have been running Ruskin Park’s much-loved paddling pool since 2015, working with Lambeth Council and local estate agents Urban Village. Last year we launched a fundraising campaign to refurbish the paddling pool. We raised more than £16,000 from donations thanks to a fantastic community response, secured £20,000 from Lambeth Council and received a generous donation of £10,000 from Urban Village. We were also supported by grants including from the Herne Hill Forum and Herne Hill Society. The paddling pool has now re-opened is used more than ever.
WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN OUR PEOPLE:

We look for enthusiastic people who are committed to the park and willing to invest their time, skills and energy in our work. Our volunteers should be  community minded, kind and able to work as part of a team.
