Street Child
Our mission is to make a meaningful, material impact on the safety, schooling and learning of a million children living in low -resource environments and emergencies, through our immediate interventions with our partners. Street Child want to contribute to the safety, schooling and learning of millions more children through our advocacy and active initiatives to advance local level action.
ABOUT US:

Since 2008 we have reached over 700,000 children in low resource environments and emergencies with services such as direct access to education and mental health provision; over 80,000 adults through programmes such as the family business scheme, education classes and teacher training; and over 2,000 classrooms have been supported either through construction or renovation to improve learning environments.

We are experts in education, economic empowerment and protection programming. Our interventions are integrated to confront challenges, assuring safety as we afford access to schooling. By coupling instantaneous change for children with an increase in the capacities of caregivers, communities and schools we support children to be safe, in school and learning in the long term.

WHY OUR WORK MATTERS:

We seek out situations where there are gaps between aid, assistance and need and, as such, are often one of the only organisations supporting children in these tough circumstances. We prioritise children in the most marginalised populations and currently work in over 20 countries across sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and Europe.

We work with an expanding network of 95+ local organisations and a focus on the power and purpose of inspirational local level organisations sits at the heart of all we do – and has done so since our first partnership in Sierra Leone in 2008. We work in close collaboration with leading agencies, leveraging our experience and expertise to issue global guidance on working with local level organisations.

OUR VALUES:
Dynamic: we are agile, bold and take pride in who we are.

HOW WE ARE DIFFERENT:

Street Child prides itself on being willing to go to the world’s toughest places where others won’t, including remote, hard-to-reach areas and fragile, disaster-affected states. Our focus is on low-cost sustainable solutions that make a real difference to the children we support. We recognise that the barriers to education are complex and interlinked, and our projects focus on a combination of education, child protection and livelihood support to address the social, economic and structural issues that underpin today’s education crisis. Since 2008, we have helped over 250,000 children to go to school and learn and supported over 25,000 families to set up businesses so they can afford the cost of educating their children long-term. Without volunteers, our work would not progress. Volunteers are an important and valued part of Street Child, and we will do our best to make your volunteer experience enjoyable and rewarding. We aim to be flexible and supportive. We believe that the volunteer relationship is built on trust and mutual understanding.
