Royal Society for Blind Children
The Royal Society for Blind Children believe in a better life for blind children. We are on a mission to make sure every single blind child has the self-belief and skills to fulfil the potential we know they’ve got.
ABOUT US:

We aim to help every young person we work with to find and fulfil their own unique potential.

We are there for them from the point of diagnosis, guiding them and their families on their journey through sight loss.

We provide them with a combination of support, learning and development opportunities to help them build the resilience, and help with the skills they will need to navigate their own futures.

WHY OUR WORK MATTERS:

We know that sight loss can affect a whole family. Through our Families First Service,  we work with parents or carers to help them to provide the best possible environment for their young person to grow and develop.

We help blind and partially sighted children and young people to build friendships, develop their confidence, independence and social skills through our Live Life Go Further programme, which offers an exciting choice of regular activities including sport and healthy living, music and creative, social meet-ups and events, youth voice and campaigning.

At our specialist Further Education college, Dorton College,  our students are able to follow an individual programme of academic learning and skills development.

OUR VALUES:

WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN OUR PEOPLE:

We are looking for open-minded, respectful, positive, open-minded and responsible individuals.

Our volunteers are from different backgrounds and different age groups. This means that each of them has a unique life style and we pride on being flexible andto have volunteer opportunities fitted around you and your time.

HOW WE ARE DIFFERENT:

RSBC is the only national charity focused solely on supporting the needs of children and young people with sight loss and their families. The sight loss community in the UK is comprised predominantly of older people, who have very different needs to children.

RSBC is the only charity offering one to one support for children and families as soon as they need it. Other organisations have online information, and some have helplines but only RSBC offers a continuous relationship with a dedicated expert, for as long as the support is needed. This support can be offered in person or over the phone but is always with the same expert.

RSBC believes that the best way to improve outcomes for children and young people is focus on the wellbeing of the whole family. This means we can have a positive impact right from the start influencing emotional well-being and confidence throughout childhood and adolescence and providing a solid foundation of the future.
