Founded in 1905 by the Sisters of Charity, St Joseph’s Hospice is one of the oldest and largest hospices in the UK. We provide, high quality, specialist palliative care and support to people in our local community who have a life-limiting illness. All our services are free of charge.
Our core boroughs are City and Hackney, Tower Hamlets and Newham, but some of our services are also available to people in the surrounding boroughs of Waltham Forest, Islington, Haringey and Enfield reaching a population of around 2.1 million people.
We take a holistic approach to our care, which means that we look after the wellbeing of the whole person, as well as their loved ones.
We provide palliative care in the Hospice and in the community as we believe that people should choose where they receive their care.
Our work matters because we are supporting those in our local communities and in the hospice who are living with long term conditions and end of life care. Our work is important that we are providing the best care that we can give to our patients and that we are here to provide support to them and to their families and friends at a difficult time.

Our Opportunities
Compassionate Neighbours are trained volunteers offering friendship and a listening ear to people living in their community, who are at the end of life through age or illness.
Walking alongside people in their grief. Trained volunteers offer emotional support and compassionate listening to bereaved adults in Islington in one-to-one and group settings.
St Joseph’s Hospice relies on the generosity and support of our local community. We need to raise around £7 million a year to keep the Hospice running and source income through a number of channels.
