We are community interest company (CIC) founded in Autumn 2021.
West Central London Fixers bring together volunteer repairers and the community to fix their electronics for free. The idea is to nurture repair culture in the community, rather than throwing away electronics. Indeed e-waste has become a huge environmental problem.
We organise events which are open to experienced volunteers and to volunteer learners. They are a chance to learn and connect. WCL Fixers currently organisemonthly free repair events at the Dalgarno Trust in North Kensington. The plan however is to have three branches:
● WCL Fixers – North Kensington - from 13-NOV-2021
● WCL Fixers – Hammersmith - from September 2022
● WCL Fixers - Westminster - from April 2023
We are supported by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, are in talks with the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham and Westminster Council. We work in partnership with the umbrella organisation, The Restart Project.
We are environmentally motivated - the problem of exponentially growing electronic waste needs addressing. We wish to nuture repair culture in the community rather than throw away culture. e-Waste is our fastest growing waste and we do not know where most ends up. e-Waste, is the tip of the iceberg. Less than 18% is properly recycled and documented. We are also community focused and plan to eventually train people in IT technical skills.
