OUTpatients
Our passion to support others is born out of personal experience. We understand what it’s like to not see yourself reflected in the services you use, especially at such a personal and profound time in your life. We want patients, survivors, partners, and caregivers to feel welcome in cancer services. This is why we have made it our mission to transform cancer care into a more inclusive environment using a multi-layered approach that encompasses peer support, education, and bespoke resource production.
ABOUT US:

OUTpatients is the UK’s LGBTIQ+ cancer charity. Proudly patient-led, they exist to shake up the system, advocate for equity, and stand up for every LGBTIQ+ individual navigating the cancer journey. They host peer support, educate healthcare professionals, and help to shape national policy that supports the LGBTIQ+ community. Find out more at: OUTpatients.org.uk

WHY OUR WORK MATTERS:

OUTpatients' work is vital because it addresses significant health disparities faced by the LGBTIQ+ community in cancer care. By providing culturally competent education and advocating for systemic change, OUTpatients ensures that LGBTIQ+ individuals receive the respect and care they deserve. The organisation also offers crucial peer support, helping to alleviate the isolation often felt by marginalised individuals facing cancer. Through innovative approaches, such as gender-neutral health guidelines and targeted awareness campaigns, OUTpatients meets the unique needs of the LGBTIQ+ community. Additionally, the organisation actively shapes inclusive healthcare policy, ensuring that LGBTIQ+ voices are heard and prioritised in national discussions.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN OUR PEOPLE:

At OUTpatients, we seek volunteers who are passionate about our mission to support the LGBTIQ+ community in cancer care. We value empathy, compassion, and a commitment to learning and growth. Reliability and teamwork are crucial, as is a dedication to inclusivity and diversity. We also appreciate creativity, initiative, and the flexibility to adapt to changing needs. If you embody these qualities, you can make a meaningful impact by joining our volunteer team and helping us create a more inclusive and supportive environment for those navigating the cancer journey.
