14th Bermondsey Scout Group
Scouting actively engages and supports young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society.
ABOUT US:

Life is an adventure!
At Scouts, we believe in preparing young people with skills for life. We encourage our young people to do more, learn more and be more.
We give young people the opportunity to enjoy fun and adventure while developing the skills they need to succeed, now and in the future.

Scouting is inclusive and open to all regardless of gender, faith, ethnicity, race, sexual orientation or additional needs.  Our main priority is to make sure that everyone, be that our young people or our volunteers, feel welcome and comfortable to take part.

WHY OUR WORK MATTERS:

Now, perhaps more than ever, young people in inner city London can benefit from the opportunities Scouting can offer them.

Being based in Bermondsey, our young people can benefit from the wide diversity within our membership.

We are looking for adult volunteers (18+) to help support our Cub and Scout sections.

Cubs (8 to 10 years)

There are loads of fun things to do as a cub scout.  Cubs get a chance to try lots of different activities like swimming, music, exploring, computing and
collecting.  Cubs also get to go on trips and days out, to places like the zoo, theme parks or a farm.  Sometimes they will be able to go camping with the rest of their cub pack. This means they sleep in a tent and do loads of outdoor activities.

Scouts (10 to 14 years)

The scout section is about spending time with friends, working as part of a team and participating fully in the adventure of life.  Scouts take part in a balanced programme that helps them to find out about the world around them.  Being outdoors is important and half the programme is given over

to taking part in scouting skills, such as camping and cooking as well as adventurous activities, from abseiling to yachting.

OUR VALUES:
Care
Respect
Integrity
Cooperation
Exploring our own and others’ beliefs
WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN OUR PEOPLE:

Our units are already run by Scout leaders but we still need adult volunteers to run our evenings and support our activities.  The more leaders we have, the more young people we can help.  Cub (Wednsday evenings) and Scout (Tuesday evenings) are 90 minutes long where we run a variety of activites each week during term-time.

You may have been part of Scouting in the past or it may be your first experience with us but we will be here to help.  You will definitlely learn some new skills (like our Scouts!) - it's fun and extremely rewarding.

Part of Scouting’s appeal is that our approach is flexible volunteering, it’s great when people can make a regular commitment to help to provide weekly scouting to young people, but we know it’s not always possible. People nowadays have busy, often unpredictable lives – meaning that they can’t commit set hours, on set days.

If you are unable to make the meeting its fine, we don’t expect everyone to be available every week. Scouting is still Scouting, whether you’re involved once a week, once or twice a month or every six or eight weeks. We really appreciate any help you can give.

Without adult Volunteers Scouting would simply not exist. Scouting is about everyday people working and supporting their communities, giving young people confidence, a sense of purpose, life values and outdoor skills.

Adults in scouting are from all walks of life. We’re Scouts and everyone's welcome here. The one thing they share is the enjoyment of working together and helping young people reach their potential.
