Our organisation is predominantly run by volunteers hailing from all walks of life. We are unitied by our determination to rescue perfectly good food that would otherwise go to waste and transform it into extremely nutritious plant-based meals. We distribute and serve these meals to Londoners in various locations around Hackney and Holborn each and every Thursday. We also provide hot and cold drinks, long lasting snacks and essential advice on local support services (signposting). Volunteering with us is very flexible and doesn't require a weekly commitment. No cooking experience is required if you help with the meal preparation.
Whilst we have been preparing and serving meals to Londoners since 2011, we are noticing a significant uptick in demand in light of the ongoing cost of living crisis. We are determined to meet demand. So many of our volunteers repeatedly say how rewarding they find helping out at our sessions. Inclusion is critical to our mission - everyone is welcome to help.
Being a good team player.
Caring about the community.
Being open-minded.
Being punctual.
Many food provision services offer a bag of dry food items (e.g. like at a food bank) which is not helpful to people facing homelessness as they have no cooking facilities. We on the other hand offer warm freshly-made meals to any one who needs one. To get a meal from us, no referral is necessary unlike many other organisations that require a referral from e.g. a GP, place of education or wellbeing practitioner. We are very accomodating to volunteers from all walks of life.
