Waterloo Community Counselling (WCC)’s mission is to deliver life-changing counselling and mental health support for Londoners that is affordable and accessible to all. WCC began in the 1980s as part of a community mental health project and in 1995 we became one of only a handful of London-wide services to offer long-term therapy at reduced fees. We are committed to supporting adults from diverse backgrounds who have experienced loss, abuse and trauma, as well as the most marginalised migrants, refugees and asylum seekers who receive support at no cost. Another objective is to ensure our services are provided to the highest professional standards. All our counsellors are either BACP or UKCP accredited, qualified by an accredited training provider, or are trainees working towards their qualification, and we provide regular supervision with a senior clinician to support their clinical understanding and work.
The UK is facing a mental health crisis following the COVID-19 pandemic, with one third of adults experiencing deterioration in their mental health over the past two years. Those facing the most significant disadvantages in life continue to face the greatest risks to their mental health. Investment in counselling and psychotherapy is needed more than ever to tackle these issues, as well as improve access to culturally sensitive and trauma informed psychological therapy for refugees and asylum seekers. Now more than ever, the work of Waterloo Community Counselling is crucial.
