The Friends of Kennington Park
Our mission is to make the park the best it can be by: • Encouraging interest, engagement and participation from all sections of the local community. • Influencing key people, in Government and elsewhere, to help retain parks as a local resource. • Identifying grants and sponsorship to improve facilities, add new equipment, etc. • Working in partnership with other park-based organisations to share resources and expertise. Working closely with council managers and staff – reporting issues and giving feedback.
ABOUT US:

FoKP is a charity run by volunteers which is focused on making our local park the best it can be for all visitors.

We help by holding events (annual festival, dog show, wildlife and tree walks, history walks), by designing permanent displays, funding projects and other activities. We promote what we do on socila media and around the park.

WHY OUR WORK MATTERS:

Lots of research demonstrate that parks are vital to people's health and wellbeing, they bring communities together and help create friendships. The work we do all year and for special events helps make Kennington Park a great place to be and our financial and volunteer suport helps improves its facilities.

OUR VALUES:
promoting community engagement and involvement supporting the environment and encouraging learning promoting local history and encouraging understanding creating opportunities to help people particpate and have fun
OUR AWARDS:
London In Bloom Green Flag National Lottery and other grants
THINGS WE ARE PROUD OF:
The difference we have made in over 20 years; the diversity of users, the major projects we have initiated, the local support we get, our partnership with Lambeth council. Our achievements and plans - the newly opened play space for children, our work to restore our iconic skate bowl and to design a new space for young people to be active or just meet friends.
WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN OUR PEOPLE:

People interested in being part of a community initiative, able to work collaboratively with others, to be creative with ideas and projects. People with social media skills to help us promote our events and activities and get more people involved and/or event organsiation skills to help us run our planned programme of events and design others.

HOW WE ARE DIFFERENT:

Focused on one area but we have many projects, volunteer based and involve a diverse community. A small registered charity where there is scope for people to take on on-off projects or get involved with helping to manage the wider programme
