Food bank session lead

We are looking for volunteers who can commit at least 2-3 hours a week on an ongoing basis. Full DBS check and travel expenses covered.To attend regular meetings taking place every other Friday for advice, training and support

What You'll Do: 

The role as a Food Bank Session Lead

- Our sessions run Mon - Fri covering Camberwell and Peckham areas where you will be working with a team of other volunteers in the delivery of food and sanitary provisions.

- You will have a positive impact on the local community by leading a team of volunteers to support our guests. It isn't always easy for people to come in and ask for help, so we want to make our guests feel at ease and respected at all times.

- Supporting our guests and families facing food poverty by ensuring they receive healthy food packages regularly.

- Inducting new volunteers; showing them around our center, explaining the tasks that the role involves and answering any questions they have, providing ongoing support as needed.

- Providing a holistic service by signposting guests to additional services, so we can address the underlying causes of food inequality and empower people so that they never need to visit a Food Bank again.

- ​​Ability to coordinate a team of volunteers in the packing and delivery of food to our guests

- Work closely with the Food Bank Coordinator to accommodate all activities required to be undertaken in the sessions.

-   Good listening skills.

-   An ability to communicate well and with confidence when handling enquiries.

-   Awareness of the Welfare System and circumstances that may bring people to our service.

-   A non-judgemental attitude towards people’s problems and challenges faced in their lives.

-   A warm and friendly approach.
