Volunteer Mentor

What You'll Do:

ReachOut is a mentoring charity which runs after-school projects for young people, helping them to develop their character, grow in confidence and raise their aspirations. We run weekly after school clubs for secondary and primary school students. Our projects are fun, engaging and make a real difference to the young people we work with; they combine 1.1 discussion activities, games, goal setting and more!

We run 2 different projects, ReachOut Club and ReachOut Academy. ReachOut Club runs in primary schools from October-March between 3.30 and 5.30pm and ReachOut Academy runs in secondary schools from September-June between 6 and 8pm. We partner with schools across London, and you will be able to pick a project on a day and in a location which works for you! You will go along to the school for 2 hours each week and get involved with a whole range of different activities which are designed to help young people develop their character, improve their confidence and set them up to lead good and happy lives. You will be working with the same young person every week, meaning you can make a real impact and see the change in your mentee from the start to the end of the project.

As a ReachOut mentor you will make a real difference to young people in your local community, you will watch your mentee grow in confidence and gain skills which they can put to use in their life outside ReachOut. You will also be able to develop a whole range of skills including leadership, communication and teamwork. Our ReachOut clubs have a real sense of community and you will be able to make friends with other mentors and form long–lasting bonds!

You will also have the chance to develop your own skills, you will have the chance to lead activities, run games and share about your work or studies!

If this sounds like the perfect volunteering opportunity for you then we would love you to join us!

Why You'll Love It:

We think that you'll love volunteering with ReachOut for a whole range of reasons, it's a great opportunity to meet new people, learn new skills and make a real difference in the lives of young people.

Here are what some of our current mentors have loved about their time volunteering with us:

"It’s a brilliant place, the community is amazing, I feel like I’ve come into a family and been accepted and that’s before even meeting the children. It’s such a rewarding thing to do and you’re brought into a really loving community of everybody working together and no one trying to compete with each other. If you want a challenge, to take yourself out of your comfort zone and do something really rewarding this is a pretty good thing to do!"

"You made it really easy for me to fit in, which I sometimes have a hard time doing. Although it’s cliché, it was like a family and a community – it was amazing"

"Once I met the whole mentor team and my Project Leader, they made me feel so comfortable and like part of a team and there was no judgement whatsoever. Even if you made a mistake they would appreciate that, and tell me that it was okay and you just had to learn from those mistakes and not let them burden you and that was something I really appreciated and hold to this day."

"It’s an incredible opportunity that if they have time in they should take part in. Besides mentoring and breaking the daily routine it’s a great way to meet new people. It’s a way to meet people and do work which is impactful and beneficial to the younger generation."
