We are looking for volunteers to work with us on the #LoveESOL campaign. Through which we want make sure that everyone who wants learn English has access to a class.
#LoveESOL* is a campaign that aims to ensure that all those who want an ESOL class have one.
We employ community organising methodology to run this campaign which means that we listen to communities affected by the issue to understand the problems, identify where power lies and combining this information make strategic choices about what policy changes we campaign to make. Communities who have direct experience of the issue are at the forefront of the campaign and their learning and development is as vital as the policy change itself.
Despite speaking English being fundamental to the wellbeing of migrant communities in the UK, many are prevented from accessing classes due to a variety of reasons - lack of provision, lack of information about classes, no childcare, costs, restrictive eligibility criteria etc.
We campaign to ensure that eligibility criteria is removed, ESOL is adequately funded so that sufficient free provision and childcare are available and apt information about provision is provided.
Currently, we are in the process of learning about decision makers, understanding decision making processes and policy related to ESOL. We are looking for volunteers to help do this. The work would consist of desk based research and some online meetings to plan and discuss findings. We are hoping to get together a group so that we can support each other, even though the research would be done individually.
