IT & Devices Volunteer

Do you have an interest in IT and computing?

Could you spare 2 hours a week to support us in our mission of ensuring that every person in Wandsworth has access to technology and the skills to use it?

What You'll Do:

Every Tuesday morning we run a devices session where we clean and repurpose donated devices (laptops, tablets, desktop computers) that our volunteer drivers then deliver to schools and community groups to be distributed to local families across Wandsworth.

By helping us to repurpose as many devices as possible, our IT volunteers play a vital part in helping us to meet the ever growing needs of our community and to reduce digital isolation locally.  As an IT volunteer you don't need to be able to rebuild hardware or carry out any complex programming, simply to follow the process we have in place to wipe and reload new software on to the laptops while supported by a member of Power to Connect Staff, there's also always PAT testing, cleaning and packing the devices to be done.

Our sessions take place at the Rose Community Centre, near Battersea Power station on Tuesdays 10-12pm. You would be joining an already established team of volunteers and this role has no weekly or minimum requirement, volunteering is on an ad hoc basis to fit round your life, lectures and assignments!

Why You'll Love It:

Digital exclusion drives poverty and can mean that people become increasingly isolated from the world around them. By collecting laptops, computers and tablets, refurbishing them and redistributing them to people in need we can ensure that residents in Wandsworth receive the support they need to overcome digital exclusion and the challenges it presents. Our team of IT & device volunteers plays a vital part in helping us to keep getting laptops back into the community and this is a role that offers a genuine opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of the people we support.

What You'll Learn:

We provide a supportive environment in which you will learn the process we have in place to clean and reload software on to laptops, tablets and desktop computers. This might be practising the IT skills you already have or learning practical new ones, it offers an opportunity to add a line on to your CV and using your skills for good.

What We're Looking For:

You don't need to be an IT expert but this role is definitely more suited to people with an interest and understanding of IT and devices.
