Summer volunteer position – Art Explora European Award

We are looking for someone passionate about arts engagement to volunteer with us over the summer. The voluntary role will support the dissemination and promotion of the Art Explora – Académie des beaux-arts European Award.

What You'll Do:

The European Award encourages new forms of audience engagement and participation in arts and culture, supporting innovative projects in all art forms across Europe. There are 3 awards of €50,000, plus one Audience Choice Award and one Special Jury Award. The volunteer will support the team in promoting and disseminating the European Award to arts organisations across Europe. Each year, we focus on a new area in Europe to encourage new organisations to apply and help them with the application process. The 2024 Award is announced on 13 May and closes on 6 September 2024.

Each year, we focus on new regions and counties in Europe to encourage wider dissemination and awareness. In 2024, we are concentrating on the Western Balkans, with continuous support to Central Europe (Germany specifically) and the UK, to encourage new organisations to apply and help them with the application process.

You will do online research on arts organisations and innovative arts engagement work in these target areas, and then contact the arts organisations in these target areas to explain and present the European Award and how to apply. This work can be done in English but additional European language skills are a plus! All phone expenses are covered.

You will also help organise a webinar to support the dissemination of the Award to inspire and inform potential candidates all over Europe.

Why You'll Love It:

Purpose, diversity and innovation!

This programme supports innovative arts engagement work in some challenging contexts across Europe – from a refugee centre on the island of Lesbos to a travelling opera in rural Spain; a rap music programme for underprivileged kids in Germany to an arts programme in care homes in France. These projects often need funding and support.

You will not only learn a lot about a fascinating range of arts projects bringing significant social impact but you will also help them raise their profile and apply for funds.

This is arts programming for maximum social impact!

What You'll Learn:

You will learn about the operations of a small non-profit in the arts sector in London. You will join a young and dynamic team in a great central London location. You will learn about Art Explora and its global ambition to share arts and culture with everyone, and break down the barriers to accessing cultural experiences.

You will learn about the operations of an award / grant programme, understanding about the need for clear guidelines and eligibility criteria, application guidance and support.

You will discover our community programmes bringing the arts into care setting like care homes and children’s centres, with an opportunity to observe or take part.

You will learn about the incredible variety of social-impact arts programmes across Europe – across all art forms (visual arts, performing arts, dance, theatre, music, literature, etc) and social contexts.

What We're Looking For:

We are looking for individual who is passionate about increasing access to arts and culture. We are looking for a self-starter who is excellent at desk research, has strong verbal and written communications skills, has a good grasp of the Microsoft office suite, and - ideally – someone who brings some European language skills! We are particularly looking for German, Serbo-Croat and Albanian, but any European languages are helpful.
