Residents Support and Engagement Volunteer

We are looking for volunteerS to lead on residents’ engagement. Assist tenants and residents in evaluating their own procedures and their own involvement. We are open to applicants from all background, communities, status, and degrees.

What You'll Do: 

The role would entail the following responsibilities:

  • Assist residents to increase the involvement of all their members through producing their own information, leaflets, and newsletters.
  • Ensure the residents are aware of information and resources available to them to achieve their aims.
  • Use innovative ways of working to provide support to “hard to reach” residents, such as youth, BAME, tenants with disabilities, residents in sheltered units, tenants living in street properties and leaseholders and encourage their full involvement in decision making.
  • Work with the voluntary, community and statutory sectors across the borough to deliver common strategies.
  • Link residents to appropriate training courses and activities both local and nationally in conjunction with the council.

We have a proud history stretching back to the 1950s, campaigning on issues affecting tenants but also offering them practical advice and support. If you volunteer with us, you will be joining a team of dedicated staff, who work hard to serve the community we are based in. you will have the opportunity to learn new skills and meet new people especially, our small staff team who are very friendly and supportive. -Expenses will be covered where necessary.

What You'll Learn: 
  • You will learn about tenants and residents associations within the London Borough of Southwark and how to support them.
  • Learn how to set up new groups and associations.
  • About the practical support and advice that they need to increase involvement and participation. -About working with the voluntary, community and statutory sectors across the borough to deliver common strategies.
  • How to contribute relavant periodic advice and information on residents matter on our newsletter.
What We're Looking For: 

The following skills and interests are essential:

  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • IT Skills – including the ability to use Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge and experience in using all the following: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp, Mailchimp, WordPress and a social media management tool (Buffer and Hootsuite are examples but there are many others). Some experience of using social media to promote charity work is desirable but not essential.
