YOUNG GREEN BRITON CHALLENGE MENTOR
INSPIRE, SUPPORT AND GUIDE GROUPS OF YOUNG PEOPLE TO DEVELOP THEIR OWN ECO-INITIATIVES

What You'll Do: 

The Young Green Briton Challenge is an exciting new initiative from the Green Britain Foundation to nurture, support and celebrate youth-led, school-based climate action. The Challenge supports students aged 11-14 to learn and apply design, innovation, business and other transferable skills, empowering young people to explore local climate and sustainability issues and design entrepreneurial solutions or campaigns to address the problems they identify.

 

PURPOSE OF VOLUNTEER ROLE 

We are seeking volunteers who are great at getting new things off the ground. We are looking for people with a background in campaigning, design, innovation or experience of setting up their own enterprise to support teams of young people. Over a four-month period, in a school setting (virtually or in-person) mentors will help students to develop their ideas from concept through to prototype to implementation. 

     

    ROLE OBJECTIVES: 

    • To provide dedicated mentoring support to teams of students to help take their ideas into implementation 
    • To encourage students to think creatively about how best to implement their solutions, increasing their confidence, critical thinking and planning skills 
    • To encourage and facilitate collaboration amongst team members, and promote an inclusive working environment To regularly monitor and record students’ progress To work in partnership with the teachers to ensure that the students behave respectfully to one another 
    • To support with preparing to pitch at the national event To attend the prestigious national event. Please note all mentoring activity will be supervised by teaching staff.

    • Experience of project and/or small business management. 
    • Able to offer insights and practical tools for implementing.
    • collaborative programmes. 
    • A responsible, resilient, thoughtful and empathetic nature.
    • Ability to build meaningful and trusting relationships. 
    • Excellent communication skills with a wide range of people.
    • An ability to be a positive role model for others.
    • Experience of working with young people is not essential - full training will be provided.
