Everyone employed by King’s can choose to spend up to three days (21 hours) per year doing voluntary work for another organisation or volunteering scheme, regardless of the role they have at King’s. This time is pro-rated if you work at King’s part-time.
This service time is part of King’s commitment to support and enable colleagues to undertake community activity beyond the university. As outlined in King’s Strategic Vision 2029, the university has a vision to make the world a better place, putting the needs of others first, beyond what is expected or contracted. Read more about the King’s Service Strategy, one of the five strategic priorities in Vision 2029.
Please log your Service Time via Teamseer (use the drop down under 'Miscellaneous' to select 'Service Time'), and this will help us to measure the use of Service Time and the total time that King's staff are giving to our communities. It's really important that staff log their Service Time so that the University can build a picture of how widely used the initiative is.
How will you use your Service Time?
From being a trustee for a local charity to mentoring a young person through weekly sessions, use your Service Time to share your skills, insights and knowledge with causes that are important to you. You could spend Monday afternoons gardening at a local community garden or doing odd jobs for older people, or you could use your 3 days to plan and deliver an event for a local charity.

Every week we provide a lunch for isolated older people in Victoria. We provide jacket potato with various fillings and a hot meal in winter. the lunch is run by volunteers. We require volunteers on a Wednesday from 11.00 - 2.30.
We are looking for volunteers who can commit at least 4 hours a week on an ongoing basis. Full DBS check and travel expenses covered. Volunteers receive information, advice and training Weekly meetings are held on Saturday for 1 hour
As a Cooking Volunteer you’ll join the kitchen team to help produce a three-course vegetarian meal using surplus food. You’ll contribute to recipe ideas, help with prepping the food, cooking the meal, and of course clearing up afterwards!
